#220604 Sugar Hill Lupine Sunrise

Close Up

I headed up to Sugar Hill on Tuesday to see how far along the lupines were, and to scout some spots. To my surprise the fields were at full bloom already, and looked spectacular! I took some late afternoon images, and then some at sunset, this being one of them. I arrived home after 9pm, getting to bed by about 10:00....
… but awoke at 3:15 to my alarm going off, and headed back out for a sunrise image. I arrived at the filed around 4:30, just as some dim color was emerging on the horizon, and was surprised to find myself the only one there. I walked through the field in the quiet of dark, listening to the early birds softly singing.
By the time I was set-up, a couple other photographers showed up and started cutting through the field to different spots . The field is so big, you don’t even know someone else is there. The sunrise came on, and I found my position for the first image off a bit, as the house was too close and I wanted the scene without it. I quickly moved, got low to shoot upwards, to hide the telephone pole and block the house out from the image.
I took a couple compositions, and then shifted back to the full field, and the view of the Franconia Range, Cannon, and the Kinsman’s, that you see here.
The light and temp were perfect, and amazingly very few black flies, yay! As the sun came up and illuminated the field, I marveled at the bird song, now more pronounced, and watched the yellow-orange light begin to slowly bathe the scene in front of me.
